June has been such a fun month! I had a lot of interesting and fun things happening, and it is lovely to see bits and pieces of Seattle during pride month.
Currently, I am working on a lot of comic stuff! This week, I took 100+ packages to USPS with the help of my girlfriend, Jazz. All of the Kickstarter copies of Pink Sugar: Volume 1 have officially been sent out into the world! I am so, so excited for everyone to receive their copies. I've got 14 copies remaining, which I will put up in the shop sometime soon!
I am also nearly done with the third to last installment of what will be Volume 2 for Pink Sugar. About 25-ish pages away from the finish line. I aim to be done by August, when my brother comes to visit, so I can spend that time enjoying hanging out with him.
I was also interviewed for Globalcomix's Pride Month! I am always very flattered any time I am interviewed to talk about my comic, because I love having an invitation to yap endlessly about the thing I am thinking of 24/7. I'll share that once it goes live!
Last weekend, I was hanging out at On The Block Second Saturdays in cap hill. The foot traffic was a bit slow, but the weather was delightful. Sunny and fair, a bit of a breeze... I was nervous about tabling because it meant setting up a 10' x 10' tent space on my own, for the first time ever, but I managed to make something that looked pretty cute and welcoming!
I think next time though, I'll set the tables a bit farther out. I thought I was doing a good thing by having the tables closer in, thinking it would be nice to let people come under the tent and browse without getting pushed around by a crowd. But I think people were generally shy about approaching my table, because I was sitting on a lawn chair in the corner.
However! Last month, I lost my wallet at Cal Anderson Park. A few days later, it was mailed back to me by someone named Emmy. I was so grateful! That same Emmy actually came up to my booth at OTB and recognized me! It was such a crazy coincidence and she was so nice.
June 15, I'll be at the Lifelong Thrift Pride Market from 12-6 at Lifelong Thrift in Cap Hill! I didn't even bother unpacking my car from OTB... Just letting it all hang out in there until I scoot it back to the city in a few days.
What does July have in store so far? Well, let's see!
I'll be participating in Artfight for the first time! I'm really excited about this, because I've always wanted to try it. My brother and I both made accounts and I've been really looking forward to drawing art for people as a fun, casual thing. Maybe I will even... receive art? I can't wait!
I will also be tabling at the Goblin Art Market event at Outsider Comics in Seattle from 11-6 pm on July 27th. Outsider Comics is an amazing, small comics shop that I've been to once before, for the book launch of Yugo Limbo's 'Viscera Objectica'. The vibe was really nice, very queer and welcoming, so I'm excited to set up a humble lil' art table there with my comics and stickers.
At the end of the month, I'm taking a day off of work to go see The Family Crest playing live on July 30th. They're my wife's favorite band of all time, and they sound INCREDIBLE live. If you haven't listened to them before, I would 100% recommend it. Freya loves "Sell Yourself Lightly", and my favorite track is "Hearts on Fire" because it has such a fun boogie energy to it.
I hope you have a lovely, sparkling, and wonderful pride month!
Queer Cheer,
Alex
